(2006)John Corey and his wife Kate Mayfield are trying to find out why a fellow officer was murdered outside of the Custer Hill Club in the Adirondacks. They think they have discovered a plot to set off nuclear weapons in the Middle East but it is even more serious to discover that they will be set off in Los Angeles and San Francisco that will spark retalliation in kind to the entire Muslim speaking world. Very good.BookList: John Corey, the ex-NYPD detective who now works on a government anti-terrorism task force, returns in this exciting and uncomfortably realistic thriller. Bain Madox, a brilliant and probably insane villain, has hatched a fiendishly clever plot to force the U.S. to launch an all-out nuclear attack against the entire Islamic world. It's up to Corey, with the help of his FBI agent wife, to stop Madox before he can detonate nuclear weapons on American soil. Set in 2002, barely a year after 9/11, the novel presents a what-if scenario that's so plausible we have to remind ourselves that DeMille is making the whole thing up. Or is he? As usual, DeMille appears to have done a ton of research; what sets his thrillers apart from those of some of his competitors is the way he seamlessly incorporates real technology and real government organizations into his stories. It really is tough to tell what parts of his novels are real and what are the products of his imagination. And although Operation Wild Fire, the American nuclear retaliatory strategy that Madox hopes to jump-start, is fictional, DeMille makes us believe that something very like it could and possibly does exist.

I came across an older Nelson DeMille novel, "Wild Fire", at a used books store. The summary sounded interesting and since it's been a while since I've read a DeMille novel, I thought that I would give it a try. I was certainly not disappointed. Mr. DeMille did a truly outstanding job of developing a mesmerizing plot, filled with interesting characters and settings. This novel is the 4th in the John Corey series. Even though I have not read the previous books in this series, I did not feel that information was missing. The main character, John Corey, is a former NYPD homicide detective who is now a special contract agent for the Federal Anti-Terrorist Task Force. He, along with his wife, FBI Agent Kate Mayfield, are tasked with the assignment of uncovering the murder of fellow Federal Anti-Terrorist Task Force Agent, Harry Muller. The plot has lots of twists and turns throughout. Some of the characters are not what they appear to be. If you're looking for a well-written mystery thriller, I would definitely add this to your tbr list! ( )

Man I love John Corey, haha. Wild Fire was awesome, I'm struggling to figure out which of the John Corey books was my favorite, and I'm back and forth between this one and Plum Island. DeMille gives you enough facts to figure out whats going to happen in the book, for the most part, but I can never completely put it together, and neither do I want to, I really just love riding it out and letting Mr. DeMille do what he does best.
Thank god Mr. Nash showed up again, and after predicting he didn't die in The Lion's Game, I wasn't so sure he died in Night Fall, and at least this time, he finally got what he deserved. At least I'm pretty sure he's dead this time, haha.
Anyway, loved it loved it loved it. Great story, great suspense, and if you like John Corey, and you enjoyed Plum Island, you'll love this one!!! ( )

This story takes place shortly after 9/11 but right around the time that then President Bush declared war on Iraq. It brings our main character, John Corey and his wife, and FBI agent face to face with higherups in the American government who are looking to annihilate the Middle East with the thought that it will bring the American security level down to green. This was a quick read that kept me interested as it kept me questioning who was involved? What cities would be effected? How quickly would the attack be stopped?
