In 1912 Lord Alfred Douglas, Wilde's lover, sued Ransome and his publisher for libel. Ransome won the suit, supported by Robbie Ross, the editor of De Profundis, but suppressed the contentious text from the rev. 2nd ed., 1913, and subsequent editions, and refused all interviews, despite the obvious publicity value.
