"SOME SAY TOMATO" is an electric & delightful collection of poems, many written especially for this book, all of which have in common a reference, image or theme relating to America's most misunderstood fruit, the tomato. Working in the gardens of their rich imaginations, these poets have worked the tomato into varied & interesting metaphors of birth, death, beauty, love, lust & nature. Some of America's best-known contemporary poets are represented here, including U.S. Poet Laureate Rita Dove, Maxine Kumin, Enid Shomer, Al Young & David Huddle. One of the most charming poems is "Voices in the Garden," written for this collection by the late William Stafford. The book was the idea of Charlottesville, Virginia writer Mariflo Stephens, who began informally collecting "tomato" poems from writer friends. She found others in already published works & when she solicited contributions she found that her friends told their friends & so on, until it seemed as though almost every poet in America had written a tomato poem at one time or another. Attractively presented, SOME SAY TOMATO is available from Northwood Press, 108 2nd St. NW, No. 5, Charlottesville, VA 22902. Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |
