Working hard to develop a new Amish community outside of Unity, Maine, Rhoda Byler is fully committed to rehabilitating an orchard with business partner Samuel King. But an impulsive decision has created an unexpected strain in her relationship with her beau, Samuel's brother, Jacob, threatening plans for the orchard. Amidst mounting tension in matters of the heart and business, Rhoda finds that this fledging settlement feels like the home she has always longed for, and she begins to embrace the God-given, heightened intuition that has always felt like a burden to her. She longs for Jacob to fully be free of his past, so they can work towards the future together. But as Rhoda uses her gift to unpack an old secret with her Englisch neighbors, it is not her beau but an unlikely ally that cheers her on. With the orchard on shaky ground and Jacob's plans in question, Rhoda is determined to see things through to harvest. But can she trust her insight to direct her path in matters of the heart?… (altro)

Another good story in this series by an author who has combined a good story-line with very believable and likable characters, and who captures a romantic tale that leaves you wondering how this book will end.

Rhoda Byler and brothers Samuel and Jacob King (and a few others) are trying to make their recently bought apple orchard in Maine work. This small group of Amish folks are hard working and caring people. But Jacob's previous years in the Engllsh world has caused him to have secrets and trouble has followed him wherever he goes. His love for Rhoda and her love for him has helped him settle once and for all the trouble he has been running from. But his being away from the farm has also brought Samuel and Rhoda closer together and Samuel is not able to hide his feelings for Rhoda any longer. Now the brothers are divided and Rhoda is left not knowing what to do. And that is just one of the stories taking place inside this book and this series.

Once again I found myself reading and having a hard time putting this book down as I neared the end. I truly wasn't sure how the author would end this story, knowing there was still one more book in this series. I say good job, well done Cindy Woodsmall; I appreciated this ending and look forward to how this series will close with book 4, "Seasons of Tomorrow". ( )

This the best series I have read. Though I have read other series. I love this book because it is just different and I love that it is catching and keeps me to be surprised. I like getting to know each person in the book and in detail. It also keeps me wanting more and making me wait for the next book for more.

The author is great in this. You learn new secret and new storylines that are dealt with. We find out if Jacob can free himself of his past along with Ronda. Ronda learn that her gift from god and what do with it or at least some of it. Will Ronda and Jacob be together in future. You will need to read it to find out for yourselves.

Do they learn what kind of relationships they each want. Samuel, Jacob and Ronda all need to figure it all out. I wonder where each one will go and who will choose who or what path they decide to take. If you have not read this series. I would recommend it that you do. The series starts with the book "A Season for Tending".

First, you should know that I received this book free in exchange for an honest review. When I picked it, I was excited because I've just gotten into this genre of Amish fiction and I've bought a lot of books lately to that end and Book 1 of this series: "A Season for Tending" was one of them. So I thought to myself, "Wow! I can read the one I have, find the second one and I'll be all read up by the time I get this one."

I tweeted earlier today that it was Cindy Woodsmall's fault that I've not been tweeting much the past few days. That is very true. Her storytelling has held me captive. Despite my irritation, I could NOT put the book down. I had to keep reading! I had to find out what would happen next! And now, having finished the third book in this series, I find myself sitting on pins and needles while I wait for the fourth. Seriously Cindy, write faster please!

This book is a perfect continuation of the story Cindy started painting in "A Season for Tending". Too many authors flounder a bit in their telling of a continuing story. They try to make books stand on their own within a series and they spend half the book rehashing the ones before. They play it safe and end up doing things that worked in previous books and don't take the chances that need to be taken to continue the story properly.

Cindy is not guilty of any of these things. She sprinkles in bits about the first and second books in all the right places and she does it so seamlessly that you don't even realize it's been done. And she definitely had no problem taking chances. While I read, I was annoyed, irritated and frustrated to the point that I wanted to scream. But I didn't put the book down. I couldn't put the book down. I had to keep reading. I had to find out where this book would take us in the continuing saga of Samuel, Jacob, Leah, Landon and Rhoda.

I'm not good at synopsis so I'm going not going to bore you with my pitiful attempt. Besides, you can read it back on the product page. And, if you want more information about the Author: Cindy Woodsmall and her other novels, her WEBSITE is the best place for that.

But trust me when I say that this series is worth your time. It's a fantastic read and not just for those who LOVE Amish fiction but for anyone who loves a great story! ( )

This is the third book in Cindy Woodsmall's Amish Vines and Orchards series. A small group of Amish move to Maine to establish a new settlement on a foreclosed apple orchard including Rhoda Byler--who is very good with organic composting and apple products, and brothers Jacob and Samuel King. Rhoda is engaged to Jacob, but Jacob has some unresolved issues he has to deal with during the course of the book. While Rhoda, Samuel and several other members of the group work to re-establish the orchard. Cindy Woodsmall continues to weave a tale with characters that are multi dimensional and very human. You hurt with them and enjoy the victories when they overcome. I enjoyed reading this book and recommend the book to others. ( )

Numerous characters are involved in this book, the third in a series. I received the book without having the opportunity to read the two previous books in the series, and found it hard to sort out all of the characters at first. Cindy Woodsmall is an artist at depicting a beautiful portrait of the locale in this book, and I easily envisioned the beautiful countryside with the orchard developing throughout the spring and summer months as the story develops. The main characters are very well defined to the point that I was constantly frustrated with Jacob and his penchant for running off to "take care of his self-imposed issues" at Rhoda's expense. I became irritated with Rhoda for her indecisive and spineless nature in her relationship with Jacob, dropping everything at Jacob's insistence in order to please him. This book is well written, but I would not recommend it as a stand-alone novel. There is too much information based on the previous books in the series, and the story ends rather abruptly as a sequel is to follow. I would love to read the entire series of books in order to have the advantage of the long-range advancement of character development and evolving plot developments.

Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group in exchange for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own, and no monetary compensation was received for this review.

To Alan and Carla Weatherly
Thank you for being such wonderful friends, great encouragers, gentle yet strong spiritual teachers, and all-around remarkable people. As a pastor and pastor's wife, you've faced many challenges while fulfilling your God-given roles. The constant need of others are as rhythmic as the beating hearts of the many you've helped. You are to those in need who you were to us thirty-something years ago: a godsend who nourished and strengthened us so we could go forward and do so for others as often as you have us of late. Otherwise, to whom would we go when we sojourn in your area? Much love to both of you! I look forward to our years ahead and a few trips to Amish auctions!

Rhoda tiptoed across the dark kitchen. Only the blue flame under the pan on the stove and a lone candle illuminated the room.
