I went into this knowing the end and yet, I still cried. I could have finished this in two days, but I didn't want to reach the end. The story of Ryan White is tragic, but it is a story people should know. ( )

I bought this book from the Indianapolis Childrens Museum after seeing their exhibit on Ryan White's life. It was a great exhibit and this is a great book. It's written in YA style, so it's a quick read but very captivating. ( )

This is the most infuriating/saddest book I've ever read. Never before has a book made me this emotional. I'm gonna try to make this as unspoilery as I can.

This book told the story of a 13-year-old boy named Ryan White. He was born a hemophiliac which means that his blood couldn't clot like a healthy person's can. So, in order for him not to bleed to death, he had to get injections of Factor VIII. It's made out of healthy blood and it would help clot the blood. One day, Ryan got very ill with pneumonia and had to have surgery to have a part of his lung removed. It was then the doctors discovered that he had contracted AIDS. He got it from the transfusions of Factor VIII.

When the town found out about Ryan's condition, they became very cruel to him and his family. He couldn't go to school or anything social with other kids his age and a bunch of other horrible things because of the townspeople's ignorance.

This is a VERY powerful and important book that should be read by everyone. It shows the power of the human spirit and the bravery of this young man that had to go through so much in his young life.

I suggest that you have A LOT of tissues if you're going to read this book. I know I needed them. ( )
