"I hope this letter gets to you quickly. We are always waiting, aren't we? Perhaps the greatest gift this war has given us is the anticipation..."

It's January 1943 when Rita Vincenzo receives her first letter from Glory Whitehall. Glory is an effervescent young mother, impulsive and free as a bird. Rita is a sensible professor's wife with a love of gardening and a generous, old soul. Glory comes from New England society; Rita lives in Iowa, trying to make ends meet. They have nothing in common except one powerful bond: the men they love are fighting in a war a world away from home.

Brought together by an unlikely twist of fate, Glory and Rita begin a remarkable correspondence. The friendship forged by their letters allows them to survive the loneliness and uncertainty of waiting on the home front, and gives them the courage to face the battles raging in their very own backyards. Connected across the country by the lifeline of the written word, each woman finds her life profoundly altered by the other's unwavering support.

A collaboration of two authors whose own beautiful story mirrors that on the page, I'll Be Seeing You is a deeply moving union of style and charm. Filled with unforgettable characters and grace, it is a timeless celebration of friendship and the strength and solidarity of women.

"Two women forge a friendship during WWII through their letters to each other, allowing them to survive the loneliness and uncertainty of waiting on the home front and giving them the courage to face the battles raging in their very own backyards."

I loved this book, and the format of telling it through the letters these two women wrote to each other during an extraordinarily hard time in their lives. The friendship and the support they showed to each other, and others in their immediate circles, was so heartwarming. This book dealt with huge issues, yes, but more importantly, I think, were the mundane daily problems, mostly caused by how lonely they were without their husbands. They grew so much, though, over the course of the book, and I greatly admired their tenacity and inner strength.

I'm giving this book 5 out of 5 stars, and highly recommend it.

5/5 stars.

*** I would like to thank NetGalley, Harlequin MIRA, Suzanne Hayes and Loretta Nyhan for the opportunity to read and review this book. ( )

This was a poignant story of two women who correspond with each other during WWII. Told entirely through letters, the reader follows the lives of Rita and Glory, two women from different social and economic backgrounds who become close friends through their correspondence. Whilst I liked the book, I didn't love it and it never resonated with me the way it should have. I found that Glory and Rita have very similar voices despite their twenty year age difference and Glory annoyed me with her weakness towards Levi. At times, I also felt the language was too modern for the setting.

However, I did like watching the friendship develop between the two women and appreciated how they encouraged and supported each other through uncertain times. Personally, I found Rita's story more captivating and moving. Glory's was often focused on the love triangle which frustrated me. Despite this, there were so moving moments that brought me to tears but at other times I was left cold. Overall, a sweet story but not a memorable one. ( )

This novel is about the power of friendship: the power it has to make us reevaluate our choices and think through things, as well as the power it has to bring us back to life when our burdens have broken us. It is written from two perspectives: Glory, a young bride with a toddler and a baby on the way whose husband has left to fight in WWII, and Rita, a woman in her early 40s whose husband and son have both enlisted. Through their letters, you see a friendship grow and develop, a friendship that ultimately saves both women. Glory makes decisions that make her somewhat unlikable, but as the letters continue, her character grows and she finds her way to redemption. Rita is indispensable to Glory. She is her rock, the giver of advice, a if not a mother figure for her, at the very least like an older sister. But when Rita needs her, Glory is there, standing beside her (metaphorically) and being who she needs her to be. I'll Be Seeing You has a strong cast of quirky characters, both in Iowa (where Rita lives) and in Massachusetts (where Glory is). I think this book gives a fairly accurate picture of what life was like for those left behind while their loved ones fought in the war. I laughed and I cried, and I thoroughly enjoyed this book! ( )

Told through corresponding letters, this charming World War II tale celebrates the strength of friendship and solidarity of women in times of war. Glory is a young mother and wife in Massachusetts whose husband, Robert, is fighting in Europe. She reaches out to Rita, a wife and mother in Iowa, whose son and husband also are overseas. The women bond over gardening, cooking, and their endless anticipation for their loved ones' return from war. Glory and Rita create a raw, trusting friendship that will get them through breaking tests on their marriages and lives. This book is recommended to anyone who enjoys historical fiction and a little bit of chick lit.
