With her charming Christmas shop, Claire appears to live an idyllic life in quaint Williamsburg. And since it's the Christmas season she has every reason to be happy, business is great, she has her good friend Mary as helper and the shop is full every day. But then Claire is viscously attacked outside her home and strangers appear to be following her. Confused and frightened, suddenly everything Claire thought she knew about her life changes.
Enter Ben Riley, a "Security Expert" with a secretive military past. He's a hunky "Rottweiler" and friend of Mary's brother. Mary soon convinces Claire that she needs protection. Though Riley is reluctant to get involved, as hysterical females are not his typical job assignment, he owes Mary's brother a favor. Riley soon sees that this is no hysterical female, and the threats on her life are very real indeed. Seeing that the murderous thugs will only be stopped when he has the answer to why, he and Claire go on a search for the truth about her background and why it's so important that someone snuff out her life.
The action ramps up in this exciting suspense novel with bad guys wiping out innocent people who get in their way, and always Claire and Riley are only a few steps ahead as they try to get to the bottom of the secrets that will free Claire.
I especially appreciate it when an author presents the reader with a woman whose core of metal kicks in… and Claire is a woman whose motto could well be, "When the going gets tough, the tough get going!" Realistic and frightening suspense, enough romance to satisfy anyone, and a very satisfying end.
