Nope, my wishlist is pretty out of date - I haven't been very good at updating my library as I buy books - I tend only to add them when I actually read them these days (one of these days I'll have a proper sort through...!). I also haven't added much to it in the last couple of years... Feel free to peruse though! ;o)

Oh yes, thanks for reminding me about that. Peggy (LizzieD) also wrote a good review of My Cleaner recently which is the one I just bought. They've also got My Driver in the sale which I think is a sequel to My Cleaner. Sigh. I will probably end up getting all three. I hadn't heard of the publisher, Telegram, before.

Yes we're probably about 25 miles outside London- wherabouts in London are you? I used to catch that train on a daily basis when I was working in the City up until about 3 years ago and weirdly I quite miss the commute. It gave me 11/2 hours uninterrupted reading time every day which I certainly don't get now. I've been following your thread by the way - but I don't think I've posted yet. This is the first year that I've really actively participated on LT and I'm gradually posting on more and more threads.

You are the first person that I have noticed to have an Ellen Glasgow book in your collection. Some of the books that we share are among my favorites: True North, Anne Frank, and I have long been interested in Walter Mosley because he describes a world I know that I will never see.
I will look at your lists to find other books I might enjoy.

I am reading Hare With the Amber Eyes now and despite some very negative (sarcastic) remarks I've seen here I am enjoying this story of acquisition and loss. What struck me about it was the fact that the anti-semitic opinions being flouted at the time deWaal describes, are very similar to those I am hearing (and thinking) about today's corporatists, who span nationality and ethnicity... but are mainly white men??

I know what you mean. It just brings out the worst prejudices, etc., in people. But I guess if people feel scared they don't know how else to respond. Lots of police in Crouch End this afternoon, and a group of young men wandering around my road whom I have never seen before. A bit scary. But hopefully will stop soon. Stay well.

I have a question about your Challenge: would "Turn Right at Machu Picchu: Rediscovering the Lost City One Step at a Time" by Mark Adams count? His mode of travel is hiking (hence the 'step') and Machu Picchu is a major tourist / travel destination.... let me know.

Hi, I lurk on RISI (used to post but the forum got a bit too big for me) so have seen you there, and so know that you have been asked onto the Amazon Vine programme. I was invited onto it a couple of years ago and have had some brilliant books from it. I once got really lucky and got a Phillips Air-Fryer and a breadmaker in the same week.

I also chose The Paris Wife last week and what a beautiful book it is (nicer than the hardback that's in the shops).

I don't think I ever made it to Tottenham since it's east of where I lived. As I'm sure you know, it's a lot easier to travel north and south on public transport than it is to travel east and west!

Glad to see you're reading "The Homeward Bounders" which is a favourite of mine (although pretty much all Diana Wynne Jones would qualify under that head).

I see we share quite a few books in common (549 today, apparently) and probably more when I get round to excavating the piles on the floor and the double parking on the shelves and actually add them to my library.

London is the greatest temptation to me as I can't pass any bookshop without wanting to go in on the way to catch the train home so I try not to take a detour down the Charing Cross Road which has the worst siren calls of all!

Re books in return, really don't worry about it, but if you _do_ have a spare copy of Jacob Have I Loved hanging around (but only if), I'd love to borrow it - I've had it on the library waiting list for weeks now, which means it's probably lost...

Why not drop by after work one day next week? I would love to buy you a coffee or a glass of wine, or whatever. Or, after that, once I'm in the hospital, you could just drop the book off one day if you don't want to come in, or if you aren't totally well. Whatever is good for you.

Over on the "Fans of [[Alice Hoffman]] site we have been tinkering with doing a group read. The group is fairly small but people who love [[Hoffman]] tend to REALLY love her work.

It has been decided that we will be doing two group reads this summer.

Yes, I quite surprised myself! It was mainly due to a quiet bank holiday weekend without too much else to do (my children are getting to the more independent stage) and then today I have been home all day with my younger boy who was off school with a migraine. I also think that finding the book a bit of a slog initially made me more inclined to try to get it out of the way, though I ended up being quite impressed with it! I will be interested to see your thoughts.

Also lots more that are new to me. Just seen a Flambards book in your 'Random Books' list - Flambards Divided. I loved that series as a young teenager, but don't recognise the title of that one, so I'll have to check it out. Anyway, I look forward to much sharing of good books in future!

Ah. I see that we have a great number of mysteries and other goodies in common, including Lia Matera, Julie Smith, and Liza Cody, all of whom I have enjoyed. I really consumed mysteries like popcorn when I was teaching and was too exhausted by day's end to concentrate on anything else. Now with retirement, I'm finally stretching a little - and that's good.
I see that you have some of the Sigrid Harald books by Margaret Maron, whom I have met here in N.C. Used to love those and need to reread to see whether they stand up now.
If I haven't said what a pleasure it is to see you at VMC group, it is! Hope you and your mom are doing well these days!

I see that you just catalogued some Kate Charles! I loved her early books about the Anglican couple whose names I can't remember. Then I bought a bunch of others and haven't been as thrilled about them.
I'm also happy to see somebody else who reads 7 or so at the same time. Much as I try to break myself of the habit, it's my preferred method or madness.

As to how I find the books, I'm not certain I know what you mean. If you mean find the physical books, do note that for the most part I haven't. The majority of my catalog is a wishlist / bibliography of works of interest. I try to make this clear with collections and in my profile, but I worry a bit that some people won't notice. If instead you mean how do I find out about all these books, the answer is primarily book reviews, footnotes and bibliographies in books and articles I read, and LT.

Looking at the map (and bearing in mind I've never been to Monterey, so have no idea how the town is laid out) ;), we'll be quite near Wharf 11, between Lighthouse Avenue & Pacific Street if that helps - looks like quite a nice location?

As far as food is concerned, I like pretty much everything - plain old fashioned, Mediterranean, Indian, Chinese, simple/haute etc etc - food generally! The colleague I'm going with is Roman and can be a little bit one two about Italian food outside Italy, so unless an Italian restaurant/cafe is _really_ good and traditional, she'll quite probably pooh pooh it (although I may go on my own!)

I don't usually read series because the characters are too static and never seem to 'get on' with their lives. But Tess has held up really well. Though it's hard to imagine her married to Crow and a mother. Surely he would be a stay at home father and she could continue her usual life. Not a bad deal.

I see that you read Donna Leon too. I love the entire Brunetti family. Can't believe that Paola comes home from the university and whips up those lunches.

I'll definitely follow your thread closely, since we have a good number of books in common. I've become more interested in British literature, after my trips to London in 2007 and 2009, and I'm glad that there are so many Brits on LT (FlossieT, lunacat, flissp, charbutton, cerievans, etc.).

Hi and thanks for thinking I have an interesting library. Crime fiction has only recently become a regular staple of my reading diet and find myself enjoying the genre quite a lot. Being so new is the reason I've pointed my European & 50 States challenges that way. I know I'm going to read a lot of crime/mystery books so I thought why not use them to differentiate between the Reading Globally challenge?

I haven't got the time to investigate your library thoroughly as yet just glimpsed the books we share. Though anyone who has all the Christopher Brookmyre books is okay by me.

Ah, a lurker. The moderators challenged everyone to participate in one discussion in 2010. Try to de-lurk for that and maybe I'll catch you on the list. I try to read at list one book per month in the group. I can't do all three because then I wouldn't get to read what I wanted to read. But I've read a lot of new to me authors because of 4MA so I deeply appreciate the group. I've only been around since Mar 2009. And, apparently this year in the 10 year anniversary, so I hope I find lots more to read.

Hi elkiedee,

Thank you for adding me to your interesting libraries. We do seem to have similar reading tastes. I thought I had read your library yesterday but it appears to have doubled since so will have another browse now!

I was interested to see you have copies of Come Back, Paddy Riley and Little Sister by Carol Birch. I read both last month and really enjoyed them but don't know anyone else who has them. I thought both were very well written and in each case completely drew me into the emotional world of the main character. (I think I'm supposed to say protagonist rather than main character but I'm not sure how to spell it!)

Even so 515 books in two (ish weeks) is pretty good going! It seems we have quite similar tastes in books given the books we have in common so I'll be checking out your library for recommendations (even though my TBR pile is ENORMOUS lol!

Hello, thanks for adding me to your interesting libraries. Are you the same elkiedee on Dooyoo? Quick work adding all your books in 2 weeks, I started in february and only finished at the end of August. Now I am trying to thin down my bookshelves instead!

I find it very user-friendly although I doubt that I'm using it to its capacity. I don't see any Georgette Heyer in our shared books, but if you're a fan, you might want to check out Almack's group which is experiencing something of a revival. (I especially like to be online and here when somebody else is so that I can chat in almost real time.)
